Playing cards entered Europe in the late 1300s, and by the 1400s they were already used for fate, not just for games.
This makes cartomancy one of the oldest living forms of European divination, older than Tarot.

Cartomancy is the broader art of divination using cards, often with an ordinary 52-card playing deck (sometimes including Jokers). Each card and its position reveal patterns, timing, and structure—the architecture of a situation.

Tarot is one branch of this tradition, defined by a fixed 78-card system rich in archetypal imagery and spiritual symbolism.

The Grand Tablet follows the older cartomantic method, which is more mathematical and architectural than narrative. It maps circumstance through pattern rather than story, revealing the unseen design behind events.
